Since I can remember, I have
always loved to workout, especially weight training and cardio sessions. Then
one day I was watching ESPN and I saw some women doing a fitness routine. I
thought, “Man that is so cool, they look awesome, I want to look like that”
But….I do not have coordination skills and I happen to be extremely shy. So, I
decided maybe I could do bodybuilding. I started training for that, but after
seeing a female bodybuilder, I couldn’t see myself looking that hard. I love to
be a lady and look like one.
In 2007, I decided enough of the wanting. This was the year to get involved. I did my research on the internet for federations, studied the women, picked a show, and the rest is history.
How key was your nutrition in your training regime?
As I have learned, the diet is about 80%. It is extremely important to take in the right amount of protein, carbs, calories, vitamins, etc. When your training, your body cannot run on empty otherwise it will have an effect on your overall training performance. I have also realized that snacking does hurt because every little morsel of food counts as a calorie or can have either a positive or negative affect on the body.
How did working with a coach & trainer help you?
Working with posing coach helped, as I was able to get the basics down. However, I found that it was also a hindrance as I was taught a specific style as opposed to encouraging me to find my own which is why I decided to go with a trainer who had experience with not only bodybuilding, but with figure as well. I also found that my trainer was knowledgeable in what the judges would be looking for as he judged shows himself.
